Breast Augmentation

Breast aesthetics is among the most widely preferred surgical interventions today at the point where aesthetic surgeries have developed with new technologies.  Breast tissue may be deformed due to birth, breastfeeding, aging and developmental disorders. In addition, it may be deformed due to aging or may have a congenitally too small or large form. This can cause people to be dissatisfied with their physical appearance and even experience self-confidence problems and psychological problems. In addition, being satisfied with one’s physical characteristics is an important factor that is reflected in one’s psychological state in relation to creating a healthy body image. For this reason, personal preferences are taken into consideration as a criterion in the breast aesthetic operation to be performed. However, the realistic results that may occur after surgery should be shared with the patient by the plastic surgeon and the patient should be given an awareness in this direction. Breast aesthetic operations are performed by plastic surgeons who are experts in their field. Although there is no standard measure of the shape and proportion of the breast, it is preferred that each body has its own breast type. Breast reduction, breast reconstruction, breast lift and breast augmentation surgeries are among the most preferred surgical interventions today. It is possible to perform breast shaping, remodeling, breast augmentation and breast lift operations with implants placed through incisions made under the natural folds under the breast. Thanks to the different shape and volume options of round and drop-shaped implant models, it is extremely easy to achieve the desired breast structure today.

What is Aimed with Breast Aesthetics?

The shape and weight of the breast according to the weight, height, age and body proportion of the person is controlled by two-dimensional and three-dimensional measurements. From this point of view, it is aimed to correct breast asymmetry, increase its volume with the implant technique, correct the external appearance of the breast, eliminate factors such as back and neck pain and posture disorder due to breast size, and provide the appearance that the person desires. Fat injection indication and breast implants are among the preferences to achieve these results. However, since the indication for fat injection has limited options, implants are among the more preferred surgical interventions. Breast implants alone are the widely preferred method for breast augmentation and breast shaping.  There are different types of implants, such as drop or round shaped, with a rough or smooth surface. With these options, it is aimed to achieve the appearance of the person’s dreams and to feel better. In addition, augmentation surgery is often preferred simultaneously with mastopexy, breast lift surgery. When breast aesthetics is evaluated within the scope of oncoplastic surgery, it is aimed to improve the appearance of the breast in cases such as significant weight loss, developmental problems and breast cancer. In this direction, planned surgical interventions are applied in the most appropriate way for the patient’s physiology. Factors such as pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and smoking in the patient’s life affect the surgical process and method. In this direction, the procedure is performed by aiming to reshape and resize the breast according to the patient’s needs.

Who is it applied to?

Breast aesthetics is applied to people who are not satisfied with their breast size, people who have loss of filling and form in their breasts, people with symmetry problems in their breasts, people with self-confidence problems due to the size of their breasts, and people who have lost one or both of their breasts due to various diseases such as cancer.

In addition, it is inconvenient to have breast aesthetics during pregnancy and the necessary information should be given to the specialist doctor on this subject. In addition, breast aesthetics is not recommended for people who are breastfeeding after birth. Even if breast implants are not harmful for the baby’s health, it is recommended to be performed after the process is over in order not to affect the breastfeeding period and to make the surgery healthier.

People who want to have breast aesthetics are advised to wait until the body completes its development period and make their decision without rushing.  It is also recommended that people who are thinking of losing weight postpone breast aesthetics. Even if weight gain and loss does not directly affect the implants, it may affect the appearance of the breast.

In Which Situations Is Breast Aesthetics Applied?

Breast aesthetics is applied to people with breast hypertrophy, inadequate breast development, changes such as breast sagging due to weight and age, to correct breast asymmetry, breast sagging after pregnancy, excessive growth and shrinkage in the breast, in cases where the waist and chest are disproportionate.

Although the age range of 18 to 50 is recommended, breast aesthetics can also be performed for people under the age of 18 if the family approves and if it causes psychological problems in the person. Likewise, breast aesthetics can be performed for people over the age of 50 with the approval of the surgeon, taking into account the health status of the person and whether they are suitable for surgery. In men, breast aesthetics is also performed in cases where there is fat around the chest due to irregular increase in estrogen and testosterone hormones, various diseases or malnutrition.

In surgical intervention, also known as gynecomastia, liposuction method is applied to remove excess fat accumulated around the breast and the insecurity program that occurs in people in this case is eliminated.

What are the Types of Breast Aesthetics?

The aim of breast aesthetics is to give a more pleasant and beautiful appearance and to make the person feel better. For this purpose, although it is not preferred much, fat injection indication method or more preferred silicone implants are preferred.

  • Augmentation Mammoplasty (Breast Augmentation): It is performed to add volume to breasts that are disproportionate to the body, shrinking due to age, sudden weight gain and loss, postpartum, developmental reasons. When determining the implant to be used to enlarge the breast, the patient’s breast structure, the shape of the rib cage, weight and body proportions are taken into consideration. The patient and the doctor decide on the shape and size of the implant in order to set physiological limits. During the operation, the implant is tested for evaluation purposes and the application that gives the best result is performed.
  • Reduction Mammoplasty (Breast Reduction):  Weight gain, developmental reasons, certain medications and various tumors can cause breast size. Excessively large breasts can lead to poor posture, neck and back pain.  With Reduction Mammoplasty, it is possible to create a lighter, healthier and aesthetic appearance by reducing the structure of the breast tissue and removing excess fat tissue.
  • Mastopexy (Breast Lift): With the advancement of age, the body loses its elastic structure, hormonal reasons, after pregnancy and breastfeeding, sudden weight loss cause sagging breasts. A vertical incision is made from the circumference of the patient’s nipple to the breast fold and a breast lift is performed with a prosthesis placed under the breast.
  • Gynecomastia: It is known as breast reduction operation for men. Fat accumulated around the breast due to hormonal reasons and various diseases leads to gynecomastia. Patients treated with liposuction method, under anesthesia, the fatty tissue is absorbed through a 2-3 mm sized tube.

What are Breast Aesthetic Techniques?

Aesthetic operations are often performed to create a beautiful appearance, but they are also performed to eliminate various health problems. They are preferred surgical interventions to repair deformed parts of the body. The breast, which is seen as one of the symbols of fertility and sexuality among the people, has a great role in spiritual, physical and aesthetic terms. It is important that the surgical intervention to be preferred in breast aesthetics is finalized with minimal damage.

Various shapes, sizes and filling materials are selected according to the needs and wishes of the person.

An incision is made in the natural fold under the breast and the implant is placed under or above the muscle. With this method, the best appearance of the breast on the body is ensured. The application prevents the scars caused by the surgery from being visible at first glance. This method can also be performed with an incision made in the nipple or armpit. However, the incision made under the breast is more preferred because it is a method that allows the breast to be less deformed.

What is the Surgery and Recovery Process?

As with all surgical interventions, the choice of a specialist doctor is of great importance for breast aesthetic operations. The surgery performed under hospital conditions is performed under general anesthesia. The duration of the operation varies between 2.5-3 hours. Although the method used in the surgery is designed to cause the least deformation, there may be scars on the nipples, but these scars heal over time and become less visible. Although it varies from person to person, scars, swelling, tingling and burning sensations gradually disappear within 2-6 weeks. A bandage is wrapped around the surgical area and the patient wears a corset.

Although each surgery has its own risks, pain and edema in the breast area are common. In cases of age-related risk, radiologic examinations such as mammography and ultrasonography should be performed before surgery. The prosthesis placed behind the breast muscle may restrict the person’s movements compared to before surgery.  Although it varies depending on whether postoperative complications occur or not, patients are discharged from the hospital within 2-5 days as a standard and possible pain can be relieved with medication. Drains, which may be placed to prevent fluid accumulation in the body during surgery, are removed in the first week after surgery. Stitches are removed within 7-10 days. Although the recovery period in breast lift surgeries such as mastopexy can take up to 6 weeks, this period may be shorter in prosthesis surgeries. You can get information about when you can return to exercise and daily routine movements by contacting your surgeon. However, it is recommended to avoid heavy exercises for 3-6 weeks according to the general procedure. Precautions such as proper nutrition, quitting smoking and alcohol use after surgery are effective in shortening the healing process. Maintaining the ideal weight and continuing to exercise ensures that the surgical result is maintained for a long time.
