Arm Lift

What is Arm Lift Surgery?

Due to factors such as age, genetics, excessive weight gain and loss, sagging, size and deformities may occur in the arms as a result of decreased skin elasticity and increased or decreased subcutaneous fat tissue. These deformations, which make the person look older and unhealthy, can be corrected with arm lift surgery. With arm lift, the person can have more tense and younger looking arms.

Why Do Arms Droop?

Heavy diets and procedures that cause rapid weight loss such as stomach reduction will cause sagging in the arms as in the whole body. In addition, sagging in the arms can occur due to some environmental and hereditary reasons such as aging, excessive exposure to sunlight.

This situation creates an aesthetically unpleasant appearance and negatively affects the psychology of the person.

Before Surgery

As with all surgeries, a detailed doctor’s examination should be performed beforehand and all details about the surgery should be explained to the patient.

In addition, the patient should also inform the physician about any illness, medication, etc.

In arm lift surgery, a 6-hour fasting period is required before surgery, as in preparation for all surgeries requiring general anesthesia.

Patients who use blood thinners etc. before surgery should stop these medications under the supervision of a doctor in order to minimize the risk of bleeding.

How is Arm Lift Surgery Performed?

Arm lift surgery for sagging arms is usually performed under general anesthesia and sometimes under local anesthesia. It takes an average of 1-3 hours.

Excess and sagging skin and subcutaneous fat tissue are removed by making incisions extending from the inner parts of the arms to the armpit. The scars are usually in the area close to the armpit and on the inner part of the arm, which are the least visible places for the arms when viewed from the outside.

In very severe sagging and fatty deposits, the patient can stay in the hospital for one day.

Liposuction is sufficient in cases where the skin quality is good and there is no sagging, that is, when there is only excess fat accumulation. However, if there is sagging skin with excess fat tissue, a lift surgery is absolutely necessary.

After Surgery

Drains may be placed in this area to prevent postoperative bleeding and fluid accumulation. These are removed after 2-3 days at most. It is recommended to keep the arms elevated, especially in the first days after surgery.

A pressure bandage is applied to reduce swelling, edema and bleeding that may occur in the surgical area. There are usually no stitches to be removed.

There is no or almost no pain in the postoperative period. If there is pain, painkillers will be sufficient. Return to normal life is within a few days.

There is a comfortable post-op period except for avoiding heavy exercises using the arms for the first few weeks.

Postoperative Scars

In all surgical operations, some scars remain in the area where the surgery was performed. These scars fade over time and become close to skin color and are not very disturbing. In addition, these scars are in parts of the body that can be hidden. In arm lift surgeries, these scars are left on the inner arm.

With Which Procedures Can Arm Lift Surgery Be Combined?

Arm lift surgery can be performed alone or in combination with other body lift operations. For example, tummy tuck, leg lift, face lift etc. It can also be combined with breast aesthetics.

If there is excess fat in the arm lift aesthetics, fat removal with cannulas called liposuction can be added to this procedure. In this way, both the subcutaneous fat tissue becomes thinner and more skin can be removed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Movement Restriction Occur After the Procedure?

It may be difficult to lift the arms in the first week after arm lift surgery. This process decreases day by day and although it varies from person to person, the person can easily move his/her arms between 1-3 weeks.

When Can I Go Back to Daily Life After Surgery?

After the arm lift surgery, the person is put on his/her feet and allowed to move on the same day. There is mild tingling for the first week, but this period is quite comfortable with the painkillers used.

With which type of anesthesia is the surgery performed?

Arm lift aesthetics are usually performed under general anesthesia after checking the person’s suitability for anesthesia.

Is the Surgery Result Permanent? Is There Any Sagging Again?

Although the result of arm lift surgery depends on the technique applied and the amount of stretching performed, the skin elasticity of the person is also very important. During the surgery, the arm is stretched in the best possible way; however, factors such as excessive weight gain and loss after surgery, age and gravity may cause sagging in the arm area again in the long term.

How Many Days Should I Stay in the Hospital After Surgery?

Drains are placed in the arm area to prevent bleeding problems after arm lift surgery. It will be appropriate for the patient to stay in the hospital overnight due to both the follow-up of these drains and the general anesthesia the patient will receive.

What are the Risks of Surgery?

Arm lift surgery is a surgical procedure with fewer complications and risks compared to many surgical interventions. However, some risks arising from surgery and anesthesia are also present in this procedure, albeit less. If the doctor’s warnings are taken into consideration and proceed in line with these warnings, there are not many problems during the healing process.

Is There an Age Restriction for the Procedure?

Arm lift surgery is a procedure usually performed for sagging due to advanced age and after excessive weight loss. Although the lower limit for surgery is 18 years of age, the upper limit is determined by whether the person has any health problems that prevent surgery.

How long does the surgery take?

Arm lift surgery is a surgical operation that takes between 1-2 hours depending on the degree of sagging.
